How To Style a Human Hair Wig
First things first, you’re going to need a little toolkit.
Here’s what you need!
- Human Hair Wig of choice!
- Wig Cap
- A heat styling tool ( optional)
- Wig Comb or Brush
Step 1: Co-Wash the Hair
Use a gentle, yet cleansing and softening conditioner or specific co-wash.
We recommend a natural based cleanser that is easy to use and cleansing.
This wash, you can style freshly washed hair.
After washing, be sure to let the hair air dry.
If you don’t have the time to let it air dry, use a heat protectant on the hair and use a styling tool
Step 2: Pluck and bleach the knots, if you want to.
Plucking the hairline a bit can allow the hair to look a bit more natural.
Plucking the hair when wet, is the best option!
Most of our units come pre-plucked and with slightly bleached knots, but sometimes, people like to further customize the hairline.
Be careful not to over-pluck, because you can’t replace lost hair on the unit.
Here is a tutorial of how to pluck your human hair wigs to the best of your ability.
Step 3: Trim The Lace
Before trimming, place the human hair wig that you are ready to style on your head.
Here, you should measure how close to the hairline you should cut, this way, you can compare the hairline that you are about to style to your own head.A standard wig will arrive with extra lace attached, so that you can customize the lace easily and to the best of your ability. The excess lace that hangs over the forehead needs to be trimmed back into the wig for the most natural look.
When cutting, be patient.
You will need a steady hand and a little bit of patience.
First, cut about an inch around the lace all around the front and sides.
Then, go in again and cut closer and closer until you’re left with about a quarter inch of lace around the human hair wig.
Just remember, cut away small portions at a time, because cutting away too much lace will ruin the wig.
Be patient and watch this video for a little bit of reference.
Step 4: Gluing down the hair
By this point, I hope you have a wig cap on!
There are several ways to style a wig, but we decided to share the beginner friendly version.
Make sure the wig cap you choose is close to the colour of your scalp.
This will create more of a seamless look.
If you have a beige cap that doesn’t match your scalp/complexion, just put some makeup foundation/powder on the cap.
When gluing, a standard glue is the got2b hair line. Here is a direct link to the glue and the spray!
Here is a video that displays gluing down the hair.
Step 5: Styling
When it comes to styling, there are so many ways to do this, and at the end of the day it comes down to the individual person.
Baby hairs are a cute style, but are optional! At the end of the day, it’s your human hair wig, so, it comes down to you.
Here is a video that gets into the nitty gritty.
Depending on the wig that you chose, the actual style of the hair will vary!
